Title: Shattered
Author: Dani Pettrey
Series: Alaskan Courage-Book 2
Pages: 362
Publisher: Bethany House
Genre: Mystery, Romance
My Rating: 3 Stars

Summary: Piper MacKenna's brother returns home, and he is accused of murder. Reef McKenna had a relationship with the women who was killed, and he was found on the murder scene by two people who testify that he was the killer. The Deputy, Landon Grainger, hates what he has to do. He has known Piper for years...perhaps he has even loved her...and to put her brother in jail, when even he is not completely certain of his guilt...
Piper is completely sure that her brother is innocent. When the police refuse to investigate for another suspect, she decides to take matters into her own hands and find the real murderer herself. But the mystery of the murder of Karli is much more complicated and dangerous than Piper and Landon could have guessed. Will the two of them be able to brave the cold of Alaska and find the real murderer in time to free Piper's brother?

My Thoughts: Well, you must be wondering why I gave this book 3 stars...I do believe it is the lowest rating I have given one of my review books so far....
-Let me first start out with the good things about this book:
The mystery was great. Very intriguing and extremely well written. The fact that this is the second book in the series does not take away from the story (in other words: my library did not have book 1, so I have not read it, but it made perfect sense to skip it and just read this one...)
-Now...for the not so good stuff in this book:
So...Bethany House is a Christian publishing company and I would not exactly consider some of the content in this book very appropriate. (Maybe some of you would be fine with it...but I am not accustomed to reading many books written for adult-Christian or not-so maybe this kind of content is quite normal...idk.
     No swearing...that i recall...that is a great thing...
But then there is the...mature content...
-Karli, the women who was murdered, was a woman involved with many different guys in relationships. One reason why Reef is a main suspect is because they had a fight when Reef found out Karli was cheating on him while they were in a relationship together.
-Deputy Landon Grainger goes to the bar, and while he is there a woman tries to get him to come home with her and spend the night. He says no, but she keeps trying to get him to come.
-Both Landon and Piper have hidden feelings for each other, and they both are said to be "pushing away images of each other"
-In order to uncover secrets about the mystery, Piper attends a party, despite the fact that Landon advises against it. Piper is sure that everything will go okay, but the man who invited her ands up drugging her and tries to take advantage of her. Luckily, Landon arrives just in time before the man can do anything to Piper.
-At the end of the book, Piper and Landon reveal that they are in love with each other and they get engaged. They go into a tree house together and Landon says that when they are married, they can go up there and sleep under the stars and they "will be married so..." The thought is left unfinished, but it definitely applies something...

So, in all, the story was great, but the content is definitely NOT for young people...I would suggest that older teens and adults read this novel. I gave it a 3 start rating because I don't like it when books I read have that type of stuff in it...
